�American Diabetes Wholesale, a discount provider of diabetic supplies to individuals without insurance, announced their 2nd annual Diabetes Educator of the Year Award contest recently at the American Association of Diabetes Educators 2008 International Diabetes Educators Conference in Washington, D.C. ADW created their award program in an effort to recognise the obscure heroes of the diabetes epidemic and offer promotion and recognition of dedicated healthcare professionals who persist committed to helping those living with diabetes.
"Diabetes Educators are on the frontline of the diabetes epidemic," says Chris Maguire, Vice President and Co-Founder of American Diabetes Wholesale. "Our honour program is a way for American Diabetes Wholesale to say thank-you and bring care to the selfless work these individuals are performing everyday."
All diabetes care professionals ar eligible to win the contest, including Certified Diabetes Educators, nurses, physicians and other healthcare professionals wHO are committed to helping their patients learn how to in effect manage their diabetes. The winner of the contest testament receive a 2-night/3-day stay at the Boca Raton Resort and Club in Boca Raton, Florida, round trip airfare for themselves and a edgar Guest as well as ground transfers 'tween the airport and the hotel. The winner will also be honored at a particular ceremony co-ordinated by ADW and local diabetes proponent partners. CDEs, patients, co-workers, medical force and anyone else familiar with a Diabetic Educator's accomplishments may submit an essay. Submissions are due no by and by than Friday, November 7, 2008.
Last year, ADW honored Barbara J. Odom RN, PHN, M.ED, as the recipient role of the 2007 Diabetes Educator of the Year Award. In addition to being a U.S. Navy Veteran and a Registered Nurse of 36 long time, Barbara became a Certified Diabetes Educator in 1985. She has since worked independently and volunteered her time in the San Diego Community and throughout the nation motivated by her sexual love of nursing, teaching and helping others. She facilitates a monthly support group in Southeast San Diego, does workshop presentations on diabetes and other health-related topics.
