Most folk know Pat DiNizio for the dark, British Invasion-influenced college john Rock of his longtime group the Smithereens. Few might too think his 1997 solo album. The new millennium found DiNizio in some unexpected roles, nevertheless -- portion as a software engineer for satellite wireless, task a solo tour in which he played at people's homes, and most amazingly, unveiling a failed just quite a life-threatening campaign for the Senate.

DiNizio and the Smithereens number one rosiness to prominence in the '80s. After playing in several groups, DiNizio decided to form his own combo. He hooked up with three young New Jersey natives -- Dennis Diken (drums), Jim Babjak (guitar), and Mike Mesaros (bass) -- wHO had played together in high school. The Smithereens released several EPs in the early '80s to mild achiever and played as a supporting band on the oldies circuit. Finally, afterward being gestural to Enigma, the grouping released their 1986 debut LP Peculiarly for You. The record album enjoyed moderate achiever, peculiarly with the college securities industry, on the strength of the ill, Beatlesque crop up of the single "Bloodline and Roses." 1988's Green Thoughts adage the mathematical group ford over into major markets with the hit single "But a Memory." The followup, 11, saw a career peak with the Top 40 success of the crunch-heavy "A Girl Like You."

Even so, with the parousia of such phenomena as grunge and Nirvana in the early '90s, the Smithereens faded from public cognisance. The grouping continued cathartic albums end-to-end the '90s, including a 1998 best-of and 1999's God Save the Smithereens; even so, they never came remotely close to their old success. (The band continued to play concerts to a sizable cult next well into the 2000s.) In 1997, DiNizio released his solo debut, Songs and Sounds, on Velvel Records, recruiting a batting order that included J.J. Burnel of the Stranglers; Sonny Fortune, a one-time saxophone player for Miles Davis; and Tony Smith, a former Lou Reed drummer.

In 2000, DiNizio made a bid for an open New Jersey Senate seat. He ran as a Reform Party campaigner, with a hunting expedition featuring a rhinoceros mascot and a platform that john Drew quotes from Harry Truman, Albert Camus, and Ghandi. Not surprisingly, DiNizio was only able-bodied to garner one percent of the votes. A documental, Mr. Smithereen Goes to Washington, took a plainspoken appear at the rock star's Senate offer. That same year, DiNizio came up with a unparalleled touring conception: for $2,000, he would push his van to a fan's house, drop off his guitar and a keg of beer, and act Smithereens requests for a private audience. He logged several yard miles and crossed the land on this enterprise. Early in the unexampled millenary, DiNizio as well began programing XM Satellite Radio, which championed unsigned artists from a change of genres. In 2007, he released his self-titled one-third solo album.

Kelly Asks For Further Delay In Child Pornography Trial

LATEST: Troubled R+B star R. KELLY has launched a last-minute bid to have his child pornography trial delayed again.

The trial has been plagued by delays and hold-ups, but was finally due to begin with jury selection on Friday (09May08) in Chicago, Illinois - six years (02) after the singer was initially charged with having sex with a minor.

But Kelly's lawyers have now asked for the trial to be temporarily delayed due to a recent "torrent of publicity" surrounding the case, which they feel could have a negative effect on the trial's outcome.

The 41-year-old has pleaded not guilty to 14 charges of child pornography, after a videotape emerged allegedly showing him having sex with an underage girl.

Also on the cards is her big screen debut in Mama Black Widow, an adaptation of the similarly named 1969 novel by Robert "Iceberg Slim" Beck, in which she plays Carol, the troubled and tragic sister of Otis Tlison.

Berlin's Uwe Zahn released his first tracks as the Arovane EP on the Din label, which also released the starting time of German dub minimalist Stefan Betke's ferment as Pole. Stylistically, Arovane's ferment hearkens back to the parochial melodious electro of early Autechre, combining interesting, highly syncopated machine boxful rhythms with warm, delicate synth textures that call forth a transparent, somewhat nostalgic climate contrasted by the sharpness of the rhythms. Indeed, while Autechre's Amber has turn a touchpoint of sorts for a unanimous unexampled generation of laptop computer do-it-yourselfers whose music seldom rises in a higher place tribute, Zahn's Arovane ferment is a logical lengthiness of an esthetic left field mostly unfinished, and is some of the most interesting and accomplished music of its kind. Fans of Ae, Funkstorung, Higher Intelligence Agency, and Phoenecia subscribe to note. After the Arovane EP, two extra EPs for Din (Icol Diston, AMX) preceded the release of Arovane's LP debut, Atol Scrap. Later that year, Tides appeared on City Centre Offices. After a collaborative release with Phonem and a compiling of 12" material, Zahn returned to City Centre Offices for 2004's Lilies.

New Panic at the Disco album shaping up on the road

Panic at the Disco's sophomore album, "Pretty. Odd.," has only been out since March 25, but the Las Vegas-based quartet has already begun writing new material for its third offering. "I wouldn't say we have an album's worth [of material] but we definitely started writing on the road, which is something we had never done before," singer/guitarist Brendon Urie said during an interview with LiveDaily. "We had a little anxiety toward writing anywhere other than [places] we felt comfortable--like home. We realized we could be anywhere as long as we're with each other."While Panic at the Disco's debut, "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out," was a flamboyant affair, "Pretty. Odd." carries a more classic, retro, mellow vibe. Urie explained that the third album is shaping up as a logical progression. "It's still more classic because we're still listening to a lot of older stuff," Urie explained. "It's in the same vein as this record. I'm not saying the next record is going to sound like this one. It's too early to say. It's a little different sounding, I guess."As was the case with "Pretty. Odd.," the members of Panic at the Disco--who also include guitarist Ryan Ross, bassist Jon Walker and drummer Spencer Smith--are sharing writing duties on the next album. "The first time around, we were still kind of getting used to each other and getting to know each other a little bit," Urie said. "[On 'A Fever You Can't Sweat Out,'], Ryan wrote all the lyrics, and then we would work on the music together. This time around [on "Pretty. Odd."], we realized it made sense for us to branch out and use everybody's talents."On the road headlining the Honda Civic Tour, Panic at the Disco will appear on the debut of "FN MTV Premieres," hosted by Pete Wentz of good friends Fall Out Boy, June 13 at 8 pm ET/PT. The band's tour ends June 14 in Anaheim, CA, however, Urie said he expects his band to perform again in the US this fall.

Madonna - Madonna To Trade Acting For Directing

MADONNA has vowed never to act again - because she would prefer to establish herself in Hollywood as a filmmaker.

The star has repeatedly tried her hand at acting since launching her singing career in the 1980s, playing lead roles in films such as Desperately Seeking Susan, DICk Tracy and Evita, for which she won a Best Actress Golden Globe in 1997.

But since directing the upcoming comedy Filth and Drama, the 49-year-old insists she has found her calling.

When asked if she still dreams of an acting career, she responds: "Absolutely not, because now I've tasted directing. It's like Eve and the apple, I have to have a second bite. If you're an actress, it's not your vision.

"The director tells the story, you are the chess piece that is moved around. That doesn't suit my personality."

And the Holiday hitmaker is so fond of filmmaking, she insists she even prefers it to making music: "You have more time to tell a story. You have an hour and half or two to save the world."

Believe the hype: Mediocrity brings Jam fans to their feet

Maybe the show was so bad because better artists weren’t available to appear at the Tweeter Center yesterday. But hype and screams aside, Summer Jam 2008 was a sad indication of what commercial hip-hop and r & b have become.
For about six hours, the sold-out Tweeter Center was a place where credibility was measured in the size of bank accounts and chains, not
actual skills. Mediocre artists were treated like royalty, the smell of weed wafted through the air and even 15-minute sets felt too long.

Praise JAM’N 94.5 for keeping things ahead of schedule, but logistics can accomplish only so much when the lineup is lacking.
Ryan Leslie wasted the crowd’s time with a lip-synced performance of one song - “Diamond Girl” - while Mario appeared to think he was still on “Dancing With the Stars” during an awkward performance that included “Just a Friend 2002.”
Florida rapper 2 Pistols proved to be the ultimate hip-hop cliche, throwing cash into the crowd, rambling at length about coming from the streets and displaying barely there skills on the mike.
Plies, another rapper from Florida, sauntered around the stage with a cup of something and barely kept up with the backing track on “Shawty” and “Hypnotized.”
Ray J, “the man who made Kim Kardashian a superstar,” returned to Tweeter for some more fake melodrama and vulgarity.
Lloyd was the first artist to display recognizable talent and more than one hit, nearly saving the day with impressive vocals that were actually sung and slinky dance moves.
Surprise guests included Yung Berg, who emerged during a dull set from The Dream, and Jim Jones, who did a medley of songs including his massive hit “Ballin” and proved that his skills live are about as unimpressive as on record but the crowd loves him anyway.
Mammoth Miami rapper Rick Ross wore his giant golden likeness around his neck and claimed to be a boss, even though his booming voice worked undertime.
Lil Wayne, clearly the night’s star, appeared with his eyes droopy and mouth gleaming, backed by a bevy of dudes sporting “Tha Carter III” T-shirts. A mere smile elicited manic screams while Weezy displayed his strange magnetism.
The set could have done without Wayne’s ode to female genitalia, but it was an otherwise welcome break from a hardworking hype machine with little of substance to offer.
